PHILIPSEN, “CROSSWIND ADVERSELY AFFECTED US ALL”
The successful rider of Alpecin Team Jasper Philipsen having claimed Marmaris-Turgutreis stage of the 56th Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey said, “It was a very challenging stage. Crosswind adversely affected us all.”
“It was a very tough day, first with a hard climb. Some riders wanted to make the race even harder. There were splits in the peloton in those times, but we came back together. Then there were the crosswinds, so it was never really easy today. Thinking about my speed in the final sprint, I am sure that I was fast. I should have started with that pace, if I had done that I am sure that the others couldn’t have followed me. I strongly felt my legs. We decided to pick up time bonus for Jay Vine in the sprint prime. We will race for the individual general classification tomorrow, it will be a fine finish. We will do our best to win the race in the individual general classification. Personally, it was already great to have two consecutive victories. Yet we will wait and see what tomorrow brings.”
